Flora María Sánchez Arias
Silver and Amber Jewelry with an "Old-Mexico" Flair

Flora Sánchez is a third generation jeweler and has been emerged in a world of metal and stones since she was a child. Born in Guadalajara, her family moved to Chiapas when she was 14-years-old. She is currently living in Guadalajara where she is a practicing architect.

While living in Chiapas she fell in love with amber and the fascinating resin captured her imagination - her creative designs are the result. In 1990, she started her own line of jewelry.

Flora is 44 years old and finds inspiration for her unique jewelry designs in part from nature – everything from plants to animals. She also takes her dreams and turns them into amazing compositions of color and form. Her jewelry often “speaks” to an individual – she believes because the stones and designs are harmonious with their personality.

Awards: In 1995, Flora won first place at an amber jewelry competition in Chiapas. Her category was “innovate designs” and her piece was called “El árbol de la Vida” (Tree of Life). In 2005 one of her pieces was a semi-finalist in a Jalisco Silver Jewelry Concurso (judged contest). In 2006, Flora once again took first place en innovative design at Expo Ambar (Amber Exposition) in Chiapas. Her piece was called “Lianas de la Selva.”

As an architect who enjoys creating space as well as jewelry with her vision of the world, Flora has also taught yoga since 1989. She credits yoga with helping her keep structure in her life.
