Feria Maestros del Arte

Presents

"Espectáculo del Rebozo"

In 2010, Feria Maestros del Arte created a rebozo (shawl) spectacle to illustrate the beauty and utilitarian value of one of Mexico's oldest artforms. Guest artists:

  • Cecilia Bautista Caballero Ahuiran, Michoacán a village on the Tarascan plateau near Uruapan. Famous for her feathered fringes that reflects the pre-Hispanic Purépecha (or Tarascans) tradition.
  • Camelia Ramos Zamora from Malinalco, Mexico whose family is well-known for rebozos woven with a technique called ikat - a dying technique that allows the warp to be selectively colored before it is woven.
  • Delfina García Ramos from Mitla, Oaxaca weaves rebozos alongside her family and her embroidery is much sought after.

Our models were local residents of the Lakeside area. Board member and Set-Up Coordinator's mother came all the way from California to enjoy the Feria and enjoyed her new modeling career with Espectáculo del Rebozo. The event began with Entertainment Coordinator, Norie Koebel, introducing the artists and models and continued with each artist demonstrating to the audience the many ways a rebozo may be worn. Clothing and jewelry was provided by artists also attending the Feria.
