Tribal
and ethnic art inspires the designs for each and every one of the original
handmade leather designs by Mercedes Aquino and Simone Ferrari of San
Luis Potosi, SLP, México. Their fine leather work is an artistic
fusion of Italian design complimented by the fantasy and diversity of
Latin America.
Self-taught
at their craft, each artist has worked with leather for over ten years.
Each item they make is cut, tooled, dyed, painted and stitched by hand.
They make purses in many shapes and all are original styles.
Folk art does not
always have to be something "old." New talent using "modern"
designs will one day become folk art of the past. Such as it is with the
original designs of Mercedes Aquino and Simone Ferrari. They have found
their niche in life and offer they talent to all of us to enjoy and use
in our daily lives.
Working with different
types of leather, they offer deerskin boots that are tremendously versatile,
soft and supple providing outstanding comfort. Hand made deerskin shoes
never need to be broken in and easily mold and contour to your feet. The
soft buttery leather is flexible, lightweight and breathable, yet rugged,
ranking third among the strongest leathers available.
Mercedes
and Simone were at Feria Maestros del Arte
in 2005 and will be returning this year as well. If
