Agustín Cruz Tinoco
Carved Wood Alebrijes

(Click on the photos to see enlarged view)

Agustín Cruz Tinoco was born in San Juan Oxolotepec, Oaxaca. He is a woodcarver of the highest degree, his whimsical alebrije creations carved and painted in bright colors. Although Agustín has been carving since he was a boy, you won't find much written about him which I find very unusual as he is one of the most talented carvers of the Oaxacan alebrijes I have seen.

Mermaids are one of Augstín's favorite themes. The large sirena (mermaid) pictured below is a piece of exquisite workmanship - I simply had to have it to offer for sale in my gallery in Ajijic. She holds a shark in one hand and a book in the other. Creatures of the surround her, each individually handcarved and removeable.

We are proud to welcome and incredible folk art work of Augustín Cruz Tinoco to Feria Maestros del Arte 2006. I have no doubt he will delight patrons who will be clamoring to purchase his work. Mexican handcrafts don't get better than this!
